Lost in Villeperdue

Last weekend we took a bike trip from Tours to Villeperdue - literally "the Lost City". The name derives from the last Arab incursion into France in the 8th century, when the town was lost to the Arabs. Today, it's lost in a more literal sense - it's one of the farthest-flung towns that's part of the school district I teach in. We were lost in Villeperdue in an even more literal sense, unfortunately, when we missed the only train back to Tours that day, and had to take a taxi halfway back to Tours and have our bikes retrieved by our friends! Lots of my students who live there saw me wandering around, though, and were very impressed that the American language assistant came to visit their town.

Bike trip!

The Indre River passing through Monts.

The countryside is pretty empty about 10 km outside of Tours.

Now entering Villeperdue.

The town square with the required world war memorial, post office, and church.

Leaving Villeperdue.

The road from Villeperdue to Boisbonnard was built in 1757 by the inhabitants of Villeperdue.
